A gunman has fired a rifle during an armed robbery at a Lake Macquarie RSL club overnight.
Police say two men forced their way into the Wangi Wangi RSL club in Watkins Road just after 11:00pm (AEDT) last night by smashing the glass doors.
Once inside, one of the men fired a .22 calibre rifle twice, and ordered an employee and two patrons to the floor.
The second man who was armed with a stick stood guard over the trio, while the gunman went into the office and stole a sum of cash.
The men then fled and no one was injured.
Police say both men had their faces covered during the robbery.
It is the latest in a string of robberies on clubs around the Hunter region, which have the industry on edge and many of which have targeted poker machines.
