A Launceston man has been sentenced to three and a half years jail for holding up a bank.
Marcus Dennis Mayne, 24, pleaded guilty to robbery.
The Supreme Court heard, Mayne told a teller at the Commonwealth Bank in Newstead that he had a gun in his backpack and would shoot her if she did not give him $50,000.
The teller handed over $8,000 and Mayne was arrested the next day.
Chief Justice Ewan Crawford told the court there was no evidence Mayne had a gun.
He said Mayne has a shocking record, including 90 offences of dishonesty, seven assaults, two escapes and armed robbery.
He has to serve at least two and a half years of his sentence.
